The 2023 governorship election in Kaduna state has been ruled invalid by the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which is based in Kaduna.
A supplementary election must be held by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) within 90 days, the tribunal ordered during its resumed proceeding on Thursday, according to a report from the Vanguard correspondent. The decision was made in a split decision with a 2:1 vote.
Consequently, the three-member panel headed by Justice Victor Oviawe ordered a rerun of the election in 24 polling places in seven wards of four local governments with 16,300 registered voters.
The judges avoided the actual courtroom, so the decision was delivered via Zoom.
Recall that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Isah Mohammed Ashiru, a candidate for the party, filed the petition.
The PDP’s Ashiru is contesting the election of Uba Sani as the governor of Kaduna State on the grounds of purported irregularities and electoral fraud, claiming that its candidate (Isa Mohammed Ashiru) won the election.
