An attempt at a coup has been reported by the junta in Burkina Faso.
An attempt by some Army officers to seize power and throw the nation into chaos was thwarted, according to the junta, which overthrew a military regime to take control.
Investigations will help identify the perpetrators of this plot, which had the sinister goal of attacking the Republic’s institutions and causing chaos in our nation.
In a statement read by the regime’s spokesman, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo, it was stated that “officers and other alleged actors involved in this attempt at destabilization have been arrested and others are actively sought.”
The military administration stated that it would work to shed as much light as it could on this plot, and it expressed regret that “officers whose oath is to defend their homeland have strayed into an undertaking of this nature.”
Two were said to be evading capture while four people were said to be in custody.
According to the statement, the regime began an investigation after receiving “credible allegations about an officers-involved plot against state security.
“We regret that officers whose oath is to defend their homeland have strayed into a project of this kind, which seeks to obstruct the Burkinabe people’s march for sovereignty and complete liberation from the terrorist hordes trying to enslave them. “
Remember that the junta took over after two military takeovers in the past year, which were partly brought on by an escalating insurgency by armed groups with ties to al Qaeda and the Islamic State that had destabilized Burkina Faso and its neighbors.
It was the nation’s second coup in eight months when Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the leader of the junta, took control on September 30, 2022.
There have been seven coups across Africa since 2020, according to GISTLOVER.
