A socio-political group, the Atunluse Initiatives in the South-West, has appealed to all religious and traditional leaders as well as good-spirited people of Ondo State to warn the ruling All Progressives Congress in Ondo State not to plunge the state into crisis.
The group, which was reacting to the ongoing impeachment move against the Ondo State Deputy Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, by the state House of Assembly, said the current heated polity in the state was vexatious and could not be tolerated any longer.
The chairman of the group, Mr Akin Akinbobola, who spoke in Akure, expressed dissatisfaction over the state of things in Ondo, alleging that the ruling party had abandoned governance for politics
The group said it was disheartening that “the ‘big elephants’ in the state are at loggerheads while the good people of the state are the grass that is suffering.”
He said, “It’s very unfortunate that this APC government in Ondo State does not appreciate the power to serve entrusted in their hands by the people of Ondo State.
“Rather than work for the people they have embarked on internal power play due to the vaulting political ambition of very few elites at the expense of the entire state.
“Our state legislators, instead of legislating laws that will engender socio-economical benefits to the citizenry, are busy settling unnecessary political scores that can cause irreparable damage to the three arms of government and the existing peace of the state.”
But the group congratulated Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on his recovery after being sick for months.
“We fervently pray that God, in His infinite mercies, who has started the work of his healing will complete and perfect the healing so as to enable the governor to leave Ibadan and resume work in Akure, Ondo State where he was voted to govern because his long absence from the state has obviously given room for a lot of political unrest, shenanigans that are anti-people, especially at this crucial difficult times.”
The group warned that should Akeredolu fail to put his house in order, the people of Ondo State would move against the executive and the legislature.
But the Chairman of the Ondo APC, Mr Ade Adetimehin, said it was mischievous to link the party with the impeachment move against the deputy governor by the state House of Assembly.
“Remember that it is not only APC members that are in the House and what they are doing in the House doesn’t affect governance.
“Governance is not affected and we can’t influence the lawmakers. They are doing their best to ensure the people of the state enjoy the dividends of democracy,” Adetimehin said.
