The National President of the youth group, Comrade Okorie Okorie, made this call in a message, on Sunday, on the occasion of Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Day celebration.
The group felicitated President Bola Tinubu and Nigerians, saying although prevailing circumstances tended to weigh down the mood of the citizenry currently, the future of Nigeria remained bright.
According to the group, having been endowed with both human and material resources, the nation’s leaders had no excuse not to govern well and improve the living standard of the youths by way of job creation and infrastructural development.
While urging Tinubu to establish the National Youth Development Commission, he said, “Nigeria is a great nation blessed with abundant human and material resources but I am very saddened to note that at 63, the Federal Government of Nigeria is yet to get the youths fully integrated into the scheme of things even as we are backbone of the nation.
“At 63, the Federal Government of Nigeria is yet to understand the need for the establishment of the National Youth Development Commission.
“Yes, I am deeply saddened because, at 63, the Federal Government of Nigeria has not seen any reason yet to build a “National Centre for Youths Development” for the teeming youths of Nigeria where Nigerian Youths can hold Symposiums, Conferences, Retreats, Summits, Craft Innovation Programs amongst others.
“The Government should note that we, the youths are the backbone of the nation. We are both the future and today’s leaders, entrepreneurs, and employees who will drive the economic growth and development of this great nation to an enviable height. The role of the youth in both the political and economic development of this country is therefore very crucial.
“It is on this note that I call on the Federal Government of Nigeria under the Leadership of Your Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR to as a matter of urgent national importance, establish a National Youth Development Commission (NYDC) and build for the Nigerian youths a National Center for Youth Development.
“The Proposed National Youth Development Commission (NYDC), when established will have a Chairman, Executive Secretary, and Federal Commissioners to be appointed from each state of the federation including the FCT.
“The NYDC shall be responsible for addressing youth restiveness, youth unemployment, and youth entrepreneurship development challenges. The commission shall also formulate National Youth Policies amongst other numerous functions that are not mentioned here.”
