The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on Monday said it had arrested two persons, Babatunde Oluwasola and Dada Fowowe, for their alleged involvement in human trafficking.
The command’s spokesman, Mr Daniel Aidamenbor, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists.
Aidamenbor said the suspects were arrested in Akure and Ondo towns.
He said they were allegedly involved in recruiting three young girls to travel to Libya in April this year.
Aidamenbor said, “Babatunde Oluwasola a.k.a Osanle, 56 years, a carpenter from Osun State but resides in Akure recruited three girls from Akure to Libya sometime around April 2023.
“He got one of them with the help of Dada Fowowe a.k.a Iya Alaso, 47, a trader from Ondo State. The victims who travelled through the desert to Libya called Babatunde through the agent that received them two weeks after they departed from Akure, Ondo State to inform him of their arrival in Libya.
“The victim, a 15-year-old girl, until her departure, lived with her parents in Akure, she had left without telling anyone about her journey. It was upon her arrival in Libya that she discovered that the situation was not what she bargained for; hence she reached out to her father who had been looking for her, for help and the father in return reported the case to the NSCDC, Ondo State Command.”
He said the suspects had already made confessional statements and after the investigation, the case would be transferred to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons for further actions.
