The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, Idowu Owohunwa, will on Friday address journalists over an ongoing investigation into the death of singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad.
The PUNCH exclusively reports that at the press briefing slated for 3 p.m. at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja, the CP is expected to, amongst other issues, give updates on arrests and invites made by the police in connection with the ongoing investigation.
The Lagos State Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, made the development known Thursday night during a telephone interview with our correspondent.
“The CP will be addressing the press tomorrow by 3 p.m. Come with all your questions and he will answer them. Until then, I can’t talk,” Hundeyin noted.
He made this known while responding to an enquiry whether or not the police would invite the late singer’s wife, Wunmi, for questioning following the arrest of Mohbad’s friend, Singer Owodunni Ibrahim, popularly known as Prime Boy.
On Wednesday the police obtained a remand warrant to further detain embattled singer, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, and a controversial music promoter, Balogun Eletu, otherwise known as Sam Larry, beyond the 48 hours constitutional provision, over an ongoing investigation into the death of late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba aka Mohbad.
Hundeyin confirmed the development on Wednesday during an exclusive telephone interview with our correspondent.
While denying reports that the duo were arraigned on Wednesday, Hundeyin said, “They were not arraigned for the case itself; they were taken to court for us to get a remand warrant to enable us to detain them beyond the constitutional 48 hours provision, so that we’re not accused of over-detention. And to get the remand warrant we needed to present the people in court.
“And we indeed got the warrant, but I can’t but I can’t ascertain the number of days granted yet; I’d make it available to you once I obtain it.”
The PUNCH reports that Mohbad died in Lagos on September 12, 2023, and was buried the next day before his corpse was exhumed about a week later.
However, many had accused the duo of Naira Marley and Sam Larry of having a hand in his death, an allegation that they denied.
The deceased left Marlian Records, owned by Naira Marley on a controversial note last year, but his relationship with his former boss remained strained after that.
Meanwhile, Prime Boy turned himself in to the police on Thursday less than 24 hours after the Lagos State Police Command declared him wanted on Wednesday and placed a ₦1million bounty on him over his alleged failure to honour police invitation regarding the death of Mohbad.
However, speaking with journalists minutes before he submitted himself to the police, Prime Boy revealed that he was never invited by the police while noting that he knew nothing about Mohbad’s demise.
