In a condolence message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Sanusi Dawakin Tofa, the governor said that the death created a vacuum that would be difficult to fill considering his position in society.
The PUNCH reports that Yusuf, a former senator between 1999 and 2007, died in the early hours of Friday in Kano at the age of 76.
The governor while praying for the repose of the soul of the late Sardauna of Dutse, prayed for his family, Jigawa State and asked God to give the nation the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
Yusuf, who was a senior technocrat, Islamic scholar, politician and business tycoon, served as the Minister of Internal Affairs and Commerce between 1979 and 1982.
He was also a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, representing Jigawa State for multiple terms.
The funeral prayer for the late Senator Yusuf took place at the mosque of Kano Emir’s Palace after Jumaat prayer by 2:30pm.
“May his soul rest in the best part of Jannatul Firdausy, amin,” the statement concluded.
