One of the passengers who survived a crash that involved a commercial bus and a truck in Lagos, Arigbabu Samuel, told PUNCH Metro that he narrowly escaped death.
It was gathered that three persons died instantly while 15 others sustained injuries in the crash that occurred at Gbagada, by Charlie Boy Bus Stop on Saturday night.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency in a statement by the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the crash on Sunday.
LASEMA noted that the white 18-passenger commercial bus with the number plate JJJ-844YA lost control and crashed into a moving truck.
The statement read, “Following a distress call received at 10.01 pm through the agency’s toll-free lines, LASEMA activated the Lagos State Emergency Response Plans with an arrival time of 10.17pm.
“Upon arrival of the agency’s LRT at the scene, it was observed that a white commercial bus lost control and crashed into a moving truck.
“The 18-passenger commercial bus with number plate JJJ-844YA and loaded to capacity was heading to Ajah from Oshodi.
“It lost control while in motion, rammed into a moving truck from behind and three people died instantly.
“Two males and one female, all adults, immediately lost their lives to the incident, while others sustained various degrees and categories of injuries.”
Speaking in an interview with PUNCH Metro on Saturday, Arigbabu who said he boarded the commercial bus from Oshodi while going to work on the island noted that he suddenly found himself outside the bus after the crash.
Arigbabu said, “I was inside the vehicle that crashed. The bus is still at the police station at Gbagada. I was the last person to enter the bus; I was sitting by the door.
“The bus hit the trailer from the back. I realised that a force pushed me out of the bus. I was the first person to come out of the bus. I only have scratches on my legs and shoulders. There is a man at the hospital, one of his legs is gone.”
