The Commander, Operation Safe Haven and General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigerian Army, Abdulsalam Abubakar, has warned residents in Plateau not to shelter criminals who are causing havoc in the State.
This was disclosed on the official X page of the Nigerian Army on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the 26-Man Peace Implementation Committee, established in February 2022, has successfully brought peace to the Local Government Area through community involvement and dialogue.
The statement partly reads “Commander Operation Safe Haven inaugurates additional peace implementation committee members in Jos, warns against harboring criminals the commander operation safe haven (opsh) and General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army, Major General AE Abubakar, has warned residents on the Plateau against harboring criminals causing havoc in the State.
“The Comd OPSH/GOC disclosed that the 26-Man peace implementation committee inaugurated in February 2022 has succeeded in bringing peace to the earlier assigned to it through dialogue and community engagement
He added that the extra committee members were inaugurated in order to carry out the recommendations of the 36-man joint committee report on achieving peace in certain local government areas of Plateau State.
Abubakar noted that the expanded committee would replicate the good works of the current committee and provide adequate solutions to the root causes of the crisis in Barikin Ladi, Bassa, Bokkos, Jos North, and South as well as Mangu and Riyom Local Government Area.
“Earlier in his welcome address, the Deputy Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN, Deputy Commissioner of Police T Iyua, said the expanded committee would replicate the good works of the existing implementation committee and provide adequate solutions to the root causes of the crisis in Barikin Ladi, Bassa, Bokkos, Jos North, and South as well as Mangu and Riyom lgas.
Also, the secretary to the state Governor, Samuel Jatau said that the Plateau State Government would stop at nothing to protect the citizens’ lives and property.
“Mangu local government area chairman, Markus Artu and John Hirse, pledged their support to work with relevant authorities in order to safeguard the community.
“Abubakar urged the committee members to diligently carry out their to protect the present and future generations from having to deal with the terrible realities of ongoing hostilities.
“The SSG maintained that Plateau State government will leave no stone unturned in securing the lives and property of the people. Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers and local government chairmen at the event, the Miskhagam Mwaghavul.
“General Abubakar urged the committee members to carry out their responsibilities diligently without bias or favor. While adding that peace can only be achieved through the collective efforts of the people.
“His Royal Highness Da John Hirse and Chairman Mangu LGA Transition Implementation Committee, Honorable Markus Artu, pledged their commitment to work with relevant authorities to safeguard the communities. They vowed to support the initiative and give maximum support to the committee in order to deliver on its mandate.
“The commander further emphasized that the peace effort was necessary to preserve the present and protect the future generations from experiencing the harsh realities of incessant conflicts.”
