The Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday confirmed the killing of an alleged unidentified cultist in the Ikorodu area of Lagos state.
The State’s Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the report to our correspondent via a telephone conversation.
Hundeyin stated that one suspect who he gave his name simply as ‘Jide’ has been arrested in connection to the killing, adding that the suspect is already in custody at the police headquarters helping the police to carry out their investigation.
Hundeyin said, “The suspect behind the killing at Ikorodu this morning has been arrested, his name is Jide. The weapon he used to commit the murder has also been recovered. He is right now at the police headquarters assisting the police with our investigation. He will be arraigned after investigation.”
Meanwhile, a source who identified himself as Aki, stated that the deceased was killed by a member of a rival group in the area, whom he and his group had been having a clash with.
Aki further stated that the killing was a reprisal attack.
Explaining how the deceased was killed by Jide, Aki said that the deceased was seen running for his life, unfortunately, Jide was faster, and on getting close to him, shot him in the forehead at close range as he turned to plead for his life.
He said the deceased’s blood splashed all over the place as his lifeless body fell to the ground.
He said, “It happened this morning, the man was seen running towards this place, we did not know what was happening until a man chased him to this point and shot him in the forehead at a very close range.
“His blood splashed everywhere, it was a disgusting sight. People ran helter-skelter while the shooter disappeared. They are both cultist and this attack was an act of revenge, he added”
An eye witness also said the incident caused a little traffic that morning, adding that residents and passers-by stood at a distance looking at the dead body while the police cleaned up the area.
