Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, disclosed that his players encouraged him to remain as their coach, expressing their confidence that, collectively, they can secure victory in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Earlier this summer, the Portuguese coach agreed to a salary reduction to continue leading the Super Eagles.
At 63 years old, he will guide the three-time African Champions to the 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire in January.
While speaking to Sky Sports, he said, “The players pushed me to stay because they believe we can win (the AFCON).
“We can win it. The players know it. They come with the same energy, the same belief, to fight for the Super Eagles.”
The Super Eagles have been placed in Group A alongside the tournament hosts, Cote d’Ivoire, as well as Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.
