According to one of the passengers who paid for a flight from Abuja to Lagos and spoke via a phone call with our correspondent on condition of anonymity, the Dana Abuja-Port Harcourt passengers refused to let the Abuja to Lagos passengers board the plane that arrived from Port Harcourt to take the Lagos passengers because they were unhappy with the delay of their flight.
He said, “Apparently the Port Harcourt people were supposed to leave by 8 (am).
“They’ve been delayed since then. So now a flight has come from Port Harcourt dropping Abuja people off and trying to pick up Dana passengers going from Abuja to Lagos. That’s the flight I’m supposed to take.
“So the Dana Port Harcourt passengers refused. They blocked the boarding gate. A little struggle ensued then the struggle carried on to the tarmac where our flight was blocked.
“They blocked us from boarding on the tarmac.
“So they asked us to go back to the departure lounge where after a few minutes they cancelled the Port Harcourt flight
“Now we’re still here because the Port Harcourt guys are protesting and refusing that if they don’t go then Lagos won’t go,” he lamented.
When asked about the current situation at the airport, he said, “Everywhere is a bit tense right now.
“Basically, we’re at a standoff. They are insisting that if they don’t go we won’t go.”
Efforts to reach Dana Air’s Head of Corporate Communications, Kingsley Ezenwa, were not successful as he could not be reached on the phone. He also did not respond to the text message sent to his line as of the time of filing this report.
