The People of Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have lauded the state government’s decision to take over the management of the Goodnews Orphanage home in the community.
The State Governor, Pastor Umo Éno announced the taking over of the orphanage home by the state government during the funeral of a foremost Christian leader, the Late Arch Bishop (Dr.) Elijah Akpan Mboho, last week.
The community said that the state government’s decision would ultimately sustain the security of the Abak people and the state at large.
This was contained in a statement signed on behalf of the community by the former deputy governor, Moses Ekpo, former Reps member, Aniekan Ummnah, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon Udeme Otong, and chairman of the LGA, Pst Ekerette Inyang, on Friday
The statement reads in part “On behalf of the people of Abak Local government, we sincerely thank the Government of Akwa Ibom State for taking over the management of the Goodnews Community Orphanage Home
“We see your decision as a strategic intervention with social and economic ramifications for Abak people.
“It follows in the tradition of the mustard seed initiative which birthed Gospel Village in the first place, portraying Your Excellency as the fulfillment of the Theocratic Dream of Bishop Elijah Mboho.
“Many years ago when Dr Mboho decided to fell the grooves of Midim Water Side in Abak Local Government Area and replace it with the Goodnews Community, aka Gospel Village, the act was at once a spiritual and social intervention.
“Gospel Village grew to become the proverbial Place of Refuge, attracting and providing spiritual and material succor to the small and mighty, the destitute, and other forlorn figures at the various bus stops of life.
“The orphanage and free education programs of Arch Bishop Mboho together proved themselves a beacon which positively redirected many an otherwise truncated destinies, revolutionizing the socio-economic and security fortunes of Abak and environs.
” In other words, the Goodnews Community Orphanage gave hope and a future to the youths it took in, making crime unattractive to them and keeping all of us in Abak and environs safe.
“Your Excellency’s decision for the State Government to take over the Goodnews Community Orphanage is ultimately a decision to sustain the security of Abak and the State at large”.
