The governorship candidate of the Labour Party for the November 11 Governorship election in Imo State, Athan Achonu, has vowed to conduct a Local Government Area election within his first six months in office should he win the election.
Achonu, who spoke in Orlu while campaigning, told a crowd of supporters that his administration would respect the other arms of government and allow the grassroots to function optimally.
The governorship candidate promised to make the state economically viable by building two industrial parks in each of the three senatorial districts in the state.
Achonu said, “I promise to conduct a free and fair local government election in history where the choice of people will prevail no matter the political party affiliation.
“I assure this mammoth crowd that the first thing I will do after swearing in is the introduction of a community policing Bill to the state House of Assembly for the establishment of effective vigilante service that will work in synergy with other security agencies for a state free of crime, killings, and destruction of properties. I promised that no single blood of innocent Imolite will be shed under my watch.”
He condemned the unnecessary extortion of residents through the various security checkpoints on the roads and called on heads of security agencies to caution their men.
He said, “I will engage our youths in the bush. They will be encouraged to come back home and be employed. Anyone who is a criminal and refuses to change will be prosecuted. “
