Tani Olohun who was brought to court on Tuesday from the Federal Correctional Service facility, Okekura, Ilorin, was charged with three fresh allegations of alleged threat to peace of the community, criminal defamation, and blackmail against Lagbaji.
In the suit filed by counsel, Mr Taofiq Olateju on behalf of Lagbaji, Tani Olohun was alleged to have used social media – Facebook and YouTube to blackmail the cleric.
Olateju alleged that Tani Olohun used social media to blackmail and defame Labeeb.
He added that Tani Olohun published on social media that Labeeb took advantage of a mentally sick woman brought to him for healing and had canal knowledge of her in an uncompleted building.
“This publication gave a bad name and defamed the image of Alfa Labeeb Lagbaji whom I know is from a good home and had a good reputation for himself among the people and his followers and other Islamic religion adherents in Ilorin, Kwara state, Nigeria, and all over the world,” the suit said.
Olateju prayed to the court to convict Tani Olohun on the three allegations preferred against him.
Tani Olohun pleaded not guilty to the charges before the court. Although, he expressed surprise at the case and was not represented by a Counsel in the Court when the charges were read to him.
The presiding judge of the court, Mr Mohammed Adam advised Tani Olohun to get a Counsel to defend him in the case before the next adjourned date and fixed November 14, 2023, for further hearing of the case.
Recall that Tani Olohun was facing a similar criminal defamation suit at the Chief Magistrate Court presided by Mr Mohammed Ibrahim and another at the Kwara state Upper Area Court presided over by Mr Sunday Adeniyi.
While he was granted bail by the Upper Area Court presided by Mr Sunday Adeniyi, Tani Olohun was denied bail by the Chief Magistrate Court.
