This came barely 48 hours after the state Commissioner of Police, Emeka Nwonyi, paraded five suspected car snatchers arrested in different parts of the state, some of whom disposed bolt drivers of their vehicles.
An eyewitness said he was walking along toward the D/Line area of the metropolis and suddenly heard voices in a vehicle as if people were fighting.
The source who pleaded anonymity said the incident occurred at about 10:12 pm at Rumuokalagbor on Monday.
He added, “On a closer look, I saw two men inside a red Spider car. One in front and another behind were dragging with the driver and punching him in his face.
“Next thing, I heard the gunshot and zoomed off with the car. So I ran backward and saw that the driver had been shot and pushed out of the vehicle. So, I and other people came around and saw that it was a bolt driver who was saying they had shot him in the leg and taken his car.
“He was bleeding and there was blood all over him. So he was rushed to the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital for treatment.”
He stated that immediately after the gunshot was heard, a few people from adjourning streets who were still outside took to their heels.
When contained, the spokesperson of the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said she would find out from the Divisional Police Officer and get back to our correspondent.
Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report on Wednesday evening.
