The founder and Senior Pastor of Kingsway International Christian Centre, Matthew Ashimolowo, says about 12,000 households will get foodstuffs, clothes, books and other relief materials during his upcoming Christ Compassion to the Rural World Foundation outreach.
The six-day outreach is taking place in Ikorodu, Lagos between November 6 and 11, 2023.
Speaking during a press conference in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos on Thursday, Ashimolowo said the almost N1bn initiative was inspired by what he saw a church do in Ghana, adding that he decided to do a similar thing in Nigeria.
He said there would be free surgeries for hundreds of persons, while multi-million naira drugs and relief materials would also be distributed to residents in Ikorodu.
Ashimolowo said, “It is a well-packaged programme divided into five segments.
“We have a daily distribution of relief materials from 8am till 2pm. We have 75,000 pieces of clothing, 2,001 packets of Minimie noodles, for maybe 12,000 families, we will be distributing 50 bags of rice, beans and garlic, sugar, salt and oil to over 12,000 families; and 24, 000 exercise books for children. We also have 5,000 books and 2,000 bibles for pastors.
“The best day of our outreach is Saturday. On that Saturday, the Ikorodu/Igbogbo Stadium will be turned into a hospital. We will have 100 doctors and pharmacists, 100 pharmacy technicians, 50 laboratory technicians, dentists, optometrists, and other medical personnel.
“We also have 10,000 glasses; 7,000 reading glasses already fixed, and 3,000 frames that will be given out by optometrists. We have N160m worth of medicines to be distributed. We have 18 buses on stand-by to convey people.”
He said there would also be an empowerment seminar and conference for pastors “where we will be empowering 2,000 pastors.”
“Ministers all over Africa will be speaking to these pastors. The likes of Steve Mensa, Jerry Eze, and Festus Adeyemo will be speaking into the lives of the people.
“We are excited, although this has cost us so much. We are spending money with so many zeros behind it, but we are happy we will be affecting 151 villages with 121 million people in it,” Ashimolowo said.
