Veteran broadcaster and Chief Executive Officer, Strictly Speaking, Bimbo Oloyede, has been announced as the chairman of the 22nd annual conference of the Women in Management, Business and Public Service.
Unveiled at a press conference on Friday at the WIMBIZ corporate headquarters in Lagos, the Executive Director of WIMBIZ, Mrs Hansatu Adegbite, said Oloyede was chosen for her achievements in the communications and broadcasting world and her track record.
The two-day conference which is to begin on November 2 at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos, will end on November 3 with an after-party and award and gala night, where the organisation said it would honour female achievers in the aviation industry.
The theme of the conference, according to the ED is “Mission I’mPossible: Thrive!”
The Chair, Conference Planning Group for the year, Molade Adeniyi, said the theme was chosen because it carried the weight of the season, adding that in the face of difficulties, many women had thrived through the year.
“WIMBIZ conferences are known to be very inspirational and that is what we hope to build on in this year. The theme was carefully chosen to show that there is really nothing impossible as long as a woman puts their heart into it and has the right support systems around her.
“The conference is set to inspire, empower and equip participants with the tools necessary to thrive in uncertain times,” she noted.
Adegbite, further speaking, the organisation would honour the first female pilot in Nigeria, the first female air hostess and the first female air traffic controller, among others, would be honoured.
The award, according to her, is sponsored by telecommunications giant, MTN and its corporate social responsibility arm, the MTN Foundation.
She also noted that veteran actress, Ibidun Allison, popularly known as Amebo in the Nigeria Television Authority TV series, The Village Headmaster, which aired in the early 80s, would also be honoured.
The conference will also feature several sessions, including five plenaries, two deep dives, WIMBIZ conversations, and a debate, on the topic, “Artificial Intelligence: Friend or foe?”.
“These sessions will explore a wide range of topics, including parenting, health, technology, and governance.
“Participants will have the opportunity to learn from experts in their respective fields and leave with actionable insights to apply to their businesses or organisations,” the vice-chair of the Conference Planning Group, Dr Joy Isa, noted during her remark.
Also to speak at the conference are the Chief Executive Officer, ASSECO Software Nigeria Ltd; Simon Melchior; the Founder/CEO, U-Connect Human Resources Ltd, Omon Dike, and the Ambassador of Finland to Nigeria, and to the Economic Community of West African States, Leena Pylvanainen, among others.
