An up-and-coming artiste, Baaset Hamid, popularly known as Bastos, has said his mother inspired his first Extended Play titled ‘Tales of Transcendence (Iya Jossy)’.
He told Sunday Scoop, “My mum, who everyone calls Iya Jossy, is the one who inspires me because she was a chorister when she was young. So, I feel it will be good to name my EP after her.”
Bastos described his music as afrofusion, which he believes is the future of music. Besides, he notes that each of his songs has a message.
Hamid said, “My music is afrofusion, a blend of afrobeat, reggae, hip-hop and highlife. Afrofusion is the future and I believe that the future is now. The music I put out has messages on history, resilience and motivation to tell important stories. I also make music that’s a vibe for party time.”
When asked about the challenges he faced since he got into music, he responded, “The major challenges now are building my fan base and getting more engagements. However, I believe it will increase as soon as people start listening to my songs.”
On the changes he would love to see in the industry, he added, “The changes I would love to see in the industry include genuine love, support and guidance from those that are at the top, to up-and-coming artistes, while we also pass that love to those that will come behind us. I desire a healthy competitive environment that welcomes and breeds talent to stardom.”
Bastos is an indigene of Oyo state and had a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the National Open University of Nigeria in 2019.
