Tenerife star, Rinsola Babajide, is delighted to have made her much awaited debut for the Super Falcons, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The 25-year-old was handed her first call-up to Nigeria’s women’s senior national team for their 2024 Olympic Games Women’s qualifier against Ethiopia after FIFA approved a request to change her association from England to Nigeria.
Babajide who was handed thet No.9 jersey in the matchday squad for the encounter, came off the substitute bench to replace Uchenna Kanu in the 70th minute of the first leg second round tie against Ethiopia and showed glimpse of her brilliance as the Falcons recorded a 1-1 draw in Adisa Abba last Wednesday.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade’s stunning strike from the edge of the box, six minutes into the second half, restored parity for the Falcons at the Abebe Bikila Stadium, after the Ethiopian girls had surprisingly taken the lead in the sixth minute of play through Birkie Amare from a corner kick.
Reacting to her debut, Babajide wrote on her X handle, “Proud moment for me and my family making my debut. 25.10.23, a date to cherish forever.”
Babajide will hope to make her home debut for the Falcons when they host Ethiopia at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium on Tuesday with the winner on aggregate to advancing to the third round, where the winner of the tie involving Cameroon and Uganda.
