In the condolence statement by the university’s Registrar and Secretary of the Governing Council, Dapo Oke, made available to journalists on Saturday, the Governing Council described Chief Lawson as a renowned educationist who was very committed to seeing the institution achieving its dream goals.
The University expressed its condolences to the Lawson and Jiboku families, while also commiserating with Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Visitor to the University, the Alake of Egbaland His Royal Majesty, Oba Aremu Gbadebo, Okukenu the IV and the entire Yoruba race over what it described as “this great loss of illustrious daughter of Yorubaland.
The statement partly read, “With a heavy heart and gratitude to God, the University Pro-Chancellor, Prof Rahamon Adisa Bello FAEng, on behalf of the University Vice-Chancellor, Prof Oluwole Banjo, FWISON, FASN, FAIMP, dFSIN, University Management, Senate, Students, Staff and the entire University Community, hereby announce the glorious home call of our respectable and erudite council member, Iyalode Alaba Oluwaseun Lawson MFR, JP, the Iyalode of Yorubaland and a serving member of Tai Solarin University of Education Governing Council.
“According to the family source, Iyalode Alaba Lawson died in the early hours of today, 28th October 2023, at the age of 72.
“Chief Lawson, a renowned educationist, left an indelible mark in the annals of the history of the University in Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole.
“The late educationist would be missed for her unwavering commitments to the TASUED Dream and her numerous contributions to the university, Ogun State in particular, Yorubaland, and the nation in general.
“The University expresses its condolences to the Lawson and Jiboku families as we commiserate with His Excellency Prince (Dr) Dapo Abiodun, CON, the Visitor to the University, the Alake of Egbaland His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr) Aremu Gbadebo, Okukenu the IV and the entire Yoruba race over this great loss of illustrious daughter of Yorubaland.
“We pray that may the soul of Mama rest peacefully in the bosom of the Almighty God”, the statement concluded.
