The operation, which was a joint collaboration with the Neighbourhood Watch Group, took place on October 27, 2023, at about 1.30 p.m.
The arrested culprit, Ifeanyi Omeke, 21, confessed to an attempt to steal a one-year, three-month-old girl child for ritual purposes.
This was disclosed on Sunday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, at the state force headquarters.
Ndukwe stated that “the suspect was nabbed after he sneaked into the complainant’s house in the mentioned community and attempted to steal a one-year, three-month-old girl child.
“The suspect confessed to the crime, stating that he was contracted by his cohorts at large, to steal children for ritual and other criminal purposes.”
The statement noted that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further thorough investigation that will lead to the arrest of other members of the criminal syndicate and their prosecution.
