This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Director of Army Public Relations,
Onyema Nwachukwu, on Tuesday.
Nwachukwu quoted Lagbaja as speaking during a reception held at Army Headquarters in Abuja.
He was said to have spoken in the presence of the Spanish Ambassador to Nigeria, Juan Sanz, and his South Korean counterpart, Kim Young-Chae.
He said in terms of technological advancement, the Nigerian Army anticipated having fruitful relations with the Spanish military and defence organisations.
He further urged the Spanish ambassador to support the Nigerian Army in the ongoing fight against terrorism and insurgency.
The statement partly reads, “The Chief of Army Staff , Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has assured Spanish and South Korean Ambassadors of Nigerian Army’s robust engagements and sustainable partnership in promoting effective defence relations.
“Gen Lagbaja appreciated Spain’s contributions to facilitating global peace and economic development, as well as her contribution to the Multinational National Joint Task Force in the Lake Chad region as well as the Joint Task Force in the North-East, through interventions by the European Union.”
In his remarks, the Spanish Ambassador extolled the Nigerian Army, other services, and security agencies for their sacrifices in protecting Nigerians and called on all to continue to support the Armed Forces in the discharge of its constitutional duties.
The South Korean ambassador lauded the commitment of the Armed Forces and the Federal Government in keeping Nigerians united despite the nation’s cultural diversity.
