They further warn of an impending mass action if anything happens to him.
Ajaero was reportedly whisked away by security operatives from the state congress secretariat ahead of a planned protest in the state over workers’ welfare neglect.
His arrest, which was announced by NLC Head of Information, Benson Upah, has since sparked outrage from the public and the Trade Union Congress.
The incident has led the organised labour to accuse Governor Hope Uzodimma of orchestrating his abduction from the secretariat to an unknown destination.
Reacting via a statement, the National Coordinator of the group, Olawale Okunniyi, condemned Ajaero’s arrest, saying the governor had allegedly shot himself in the foot.
According to him, the development is capable of making Uzodimma lose his re-election bid, which is less than two weeks away.
He said, “It will therefore be in the interest of the governor that nothing happens to Ajaero in his illegal custody to avoid a total shutdown of Abuja and Nigeria as the Nigerian people are being pushed by bandits in power towards mass action.”
In a similar development, Okunniyi also knocked the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over the recent crisis rocking Rivers State.
The human rights activist lamented that it was unfair to sponsor an impeachment move against Gov Sim Fubara, who has barely spent six months in office.
“It is therefore precisely due to the emerging anti-democratic posturing of the former governor, Nyesom Wike, who is now the Minister of FCT that we condemn in strongest terms the political crisis in Rivers State.
“The United Action Front of Civil Society wishes to state that Mr Wike should desist from foisting any further rascality in Rivers State and stop his desperate machination to impeach the Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, who only assumed office in May this year.
“The ongoing crisis in Rivers which is no doubt the continuation of the political rascality of Wike must not be allowed to undermine governance in the state and even in the FCT, as it is rather unbecoming for the Minister to be sponsoring the impeachment of his successor just five months of assuming office.
“We therefore demand that the security agents under the control of the federal government must resist being used as tools by Mr. Wike to settle scores in Rivers State.”
