A filmmaker, Akinbayo Morakinyo, has noted that while awards are recognition for one’s hard work, he does not allow them to dictate his creative process.
In an interview with Sunday Scoop, he said, “I view awards as a recognition of hard work and talent, but I try not to let them dictate my creative process. I believe it’s important to stay true to my vision and continue telling stories that inspire and engage audiences, regardless of awards.”
Speaking on the most daring thing he has ever done as a filmmaker, he said, “As a filmmaker, one of the most daring things I have done is pushing the boundaries of storytelling by exploring unconventional narrative structures and experimenting with unique visual styles. It’s all about taking risks and challenging the status quo to create something truly memorable and impactful.”
He also spoke on how he feels about winning the Best Indigenous Film Award at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival this year, saying, “Winning this award will have a positive impact on my career and help to bring more recognition to my work in the film industry. It’s a great opportunity to showcase the power of indigenous storytelling.”
