Eromosele, a Labour Party aspirant in the state, cited poverty and hardship, as factors aggravating the dependency ratio.
While describing the state’s position as alarming, he stressed the case of human trafficking as one of its drawbacks as the state with the highest number of trafficked persons, referencing the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons.
He further atressed the need to prioritise policy formation for desired results to change the gloomy condition of the state’s economy.
“My government would prioritise people, environment, and resources through the right policies and strong implementation plans,” he said in a statement on Monday,
Eromosele called for action to address Edo’s socioeconomic challenges, including poor state of infrastructure and unemployment.
“With my Move Against Poverty programme, he noted it was high time for the state to be restored, increased, secured and empowered. Under my leadership, Edo would focus on collective efforts to address the challenges facing the state, while working towards building a prosperous and equitable society for all,” he said in a statement on Monday.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had fixed September 21, 2024, as the election date for the state, The PUNCH notifies.
INEC noted that the declaration is in pursuance of the provisions of Section 178 (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) states that election into the said offices shall be held not earlier than 150 days and not later than 30 days before the expiration of the tenure of the last holder of the office.
The commission further said that details of the elections would be published and made public both on the INEC website and across its social media platforms.
