Abia Governor Alex Otti has stated that the state government is committed to constructing roads that will improve trade and business ventures within the state.
At the MCC/Old Express Road’s inauguration in Aba on Sunday, Otti made this statement.
According to the governor, his administration believed that in addition to enhancing vehicle mobility, high-quality road construction was essential to enabling businesses to prosper.
He revealed that certain roads that were crucial to economic growth had contracts issued by the government for their rehabilitation and reconstruction.
“We cannot drive the kind of economic rejuvenation that we seek if our most important roads are in bad shape,” he said.
The governor said the reconstructed road was a testament that the government had began a holistic restoration of Aba and the state at large.
Otti maintained that the inauguration of the road meant that “Aba is open for business” and called on potential investors to take advantage of the numerous opportunities that abound in the state.
“Our motivation in government is to create the right environment for individuals to live out the full expression of their dreams,
“We are also interested in supporting the growth of enterprises and setting up a safe haven for legitimately profitable and sustainable investments,” he said.
Otti reaffirmed the government’s dedication to reforming rules and programs that would make it easier to form alliances and the best investment routes, which would further motivate the government to improve public services.
He added that the government had moved to address the recurring flooding problem in Aba on a long-term basis.
The governor said that contracts for the reconstruction of economically significant highways in the local government districts had been given out by the government.
“We are working very hard to reconstruct several other roads in about nine LGAs through a special multilateral funding arrangement that gives the state a pathway to fix roads to boost agriculture productivity and produce marketing,” he added.
Chief Jerry Kalu, the president of the Aba Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture, also gave a speech in which he praised the government’s efforts to reconstruct Abia.
Kalu said the current administration’s reconstruction strategy will significantly contribute to the state’s socioeconomic progress.
According to Oti, the recently rebuilt MCC Old Express, Udeagbala, and Umuimo Roads in Aba have street lights and drainage systems in addition to structural architecture that complies with the highest standards for road building.
He begged the locals to refrain from doing anything that might make the roads unusable again.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the governor also officially opened Aba’s Udeagbala and Umuimo Roads.
