Lobi Stars head coach Eugene Agagbe has stated that his team is not under any pressure to mount a title challenge in the Nigeria Premier Football League this season but will rather focus on picking a continental ticket, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Lobi Stars are the last Nigerian team to reach the group stage of the CAF Champions League which they did in 2018.
The Makurdi side are now top of the 2023/24 NPFL table after match-day seven with 14 points, thanks to their 2-1 away win over Bayelsa United on Monday.
Samuel Tiza bagged a brace to take his goal tally for the season to four and also secured Lobi’s fourth win of the season.
It was also their first away win of the season after coming close with draws away at Heartland and Katsina United and Agagbe believes there is more to come.
“When players play according to instructions, we get results like this. I am excited because it’s what I’ve been looking for. Katsina United and Heartland escaped narrowly but we have this one and there will be more to come,” the coach said after their win against Bayelsa United.
Agagbe took over as Lobi Stars coach after Abubakar Bala stepped down before the start of the season and the Benue-born coach is eyeing a return to the continent after enjoying a good start to his stint.
“No one in my management has given me a target but as a coach, my target is that within this season, I must come within the first three so I’m looking at the continent. We shall not be distracted. The league has just started, we will continue to work harder for more victories home and away.”
Lobi Stars next game is against Sporting Lagos at home on match-day eight.
