Ajaero was last week arrested by the police ahead of the state-wide protest in Imo State.
However, the police denied arresting Ajaero, stating that he was merely taken into protective custody to prevent a mob attack. Uzodimma, however, accused the labour leader of meddling in the political affairs of the state.
“We’re suing the Tinubu administration and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, over the brutal attack on NLC National President, Joe Ajaero, last week in Imo State, and the failure of the authorities to bring suspected perpetrators to justice,” SERAP announced on its X handle on Tuesday.
The PUNCH reports Organised labour comprising of the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress on Tuesday declared a total nationwide strike effective Tuesday, November 14, 2023.
The leadership of the two unions reached the resolution after an extraordinary National Executive Council meeting on Tuesday in Abuja.
The unions also ordered a shutdown of electricity and fuel supplies in Imo state, due to the brutalisation of the Ajaero by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Labour Centres also directed aviation workers to ensure that flights into and outside the state are suspended.
