Ogun State Commissioner for Agriculture, Bolu Owotomo, says Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration remains committed to supporting farmers through special intervention programmes that will enhance their productivity and profitability.
Owotomo, according to a statement on Wednesday, gave this assurance during the 12th edition of Nigeria Poultry Show 2023, organised by the Nigeria Poultry Association of Nigeria.
The show with the theme: “Mitigating the Challenges of the Poultry Industry: Current Perspective, the Role of Government and Private Sector,” held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The commissioner explained that the federal and state governments were mindful of the numerous challenges faced by the poultry industry, one of which is the high cost of feeds.
He promised the intervention of the government by the provision of an enabling environment, security, and encouragement of cluster farming for maize farmers to ensure a regular supply of maize used in the production of feeds for the poultry Industry.
In her goodwill message the Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, Abisola Olusanya, said the government had a role to play in the sector and would do the needful.
The President, Poultry Association of Nigeria, Chief Sunday Obiora, and the southwestern chairman, Rev. Gideon Oluleye, noted that the poultry sector contributes in no small way to the nation’s economy and should not be neglected.
They implored the government to increase budgetary allocation to the agricultural sector.
