The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Saturday’s Kogi State governorship election, Dino Melaye, lost in his local government to the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Melaye, who represented Kogi West senatorial district in the 8th National Assembly, is from Ayetoro Gbede in the Ijumu Local Government Area of the state.
Melaye secured 6,909 votes in his local government area while Usman Ododo of the APC secured 10,524 votes.
There were 66,482 registered voters in the local government area with 20,405 accredited voters. However, there were 19,991 valid votes out of 20,375 total votes cast.
There are 21 local government areas in Kogi.
From the results of the 12 local government areas announced so far, Ododo has won 10, Yakubu Murtala of the Social Democratic Party has two while Melaye has not won any.
