Achonu, while briefing journalists on Sunday after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared the governor of the state and candidate of the APC in the election, Hope Uzodimma, as the winner of the election, said the role played by the security agents in the election was condemnable.
He claimed to have won the election but the security agents allegedly assisted the APC members to hijack the electoral process and rewrote the results.
Achonu, who announced that he would challenge Uzodimma’s victory in court, described the actions of security agents as “a rape on the country’s democracy.”
He said, “The security agencies, DSS, police and military raped our democracy. It was like a coup by the security agencies. It was not the fault of INEC. They were scared.
“We are only waiting for the INEC chairman to tell us why he didn’t stop the collation because you cannot have a collation when what you have on your results sheet is different from what you have on IReV.
“INEC told the whole world that BVAS will work and that BVAS will be used for accreditation. 70 per cent of the voting yesterday was done without BVAS accreditation, yet the result was announced.
“These things (electoral materials) were taken to the homes of commissioners, sole administrators of LGAs and traditional rulers. I call on all ad hoc staff of INEC with evidence of what happened to come forward and expose them.
“There was no election. They promised to do the ward collation at designated collation centres, but they took it to the LGA headquarters and very few to INEC designated centres, and when they got to the LGA headquarters, they only allowed APC commissioners and LGA sole administrators, and the security barred every other person. You can imagine what went on there.”
