The group, under the auspices of the Ondo State APC Elders’ Committee, asked the state House of Assembly to stop the issue of impeachment against the deputy governor.
This was contained in a communiqué issued after the meeting of the group.
The communiqué was signed by the secretary of the group, Agboola Kelly, and made available to our correspondent on Tuesday.
According to the communiqué, the elders, at the meeting, warned the lawmakers against violating the order of the national leadership of the party, which had already intervened in the crisis in a bid to resolve it.
The communiqué read, “The elders commended the national leadership of the party for the laudable, commendable, and highly appreciated intervention in the face-off between the state House of Assembly and the Deputy Governor, Hon. Lucky Ayedatiwa.
“The elders resolved to book an appointment to discuss with the national leadership of the party in Abuja the prevalent issues in Ondo State.
“The elders also resolved that the Ondo State House of Assembly should stop the issue of impeachment in tandem with the agreement reached with the national leadership of our party, where a joint press conference was held in Abuja by all parties involved. As loyal party members, the state House of Assembly should not flout the national leadership directives of our party, the APC, under any circumstances. No member is above the APC.”
The elders also resolved at the meeting to book an appointment to see and pray for the quick recovery of Governor Akeredolu.
On Monday, it was reported that the National Leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, summoned some other elders in the state on his way to resolve the crisis between the governor and the deputy. The elders also asked the House to stop the impeachment process.
The impeachment process against the deputy governor was stalled as the Chief Justice of the State, Olusegun Odusola, declined to constitute a seven-man panel to investigate the allegation against Aiyedatiwa against the request of the Assembly.
