The Gombe State Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Usman, on Tuesday committed to community policing in the state, adding that it would solve myriads of security issues.
Usman also urged residents to collaborate with the security agencies to ensure peaceful co-existence in its bid to curb criminal activities.
He made this disclosure in Gona emirate, Akko Local Government Area, in an interview with journalists shortly after engaging in meetings with stakeholders.
According to him, the police would not curb crime and criminalities alone without the requisite support from relevant stakeholders.
He said, “We are in this emirate because what is happening in Tumfure in the area is bedeviled with criminal activities and there is no way we can deal with the criminalities without the emirate and the locals. This is a kind of community policing strategy that I feel I should adopt and implement. I need a kind of situation where everybody will join us so that we can succeed in making the place peaceful.
“I was impressed with their response as they were all happy and with the backing of His Royal Highness even the community only that they were lacking in ideas on how to go about it that is why I felt I should come. However, they have promised to use all avenues to help us to contain the criminal activities.”
On the expectations of the people, Usman assured that the state would be peaceful following his assumption of office, adding that “We are going to do our best with the cooperation of the community by the grace of God we will try our best if not all at least 90 per cent of criminality activities taking place. This is just the beginning and we are going to do our best.”
Also speaking, the Emir of Gona, Umar Abdulsalam, lauded Usman for collaborating with stakeholders towards stamping out crime in his emirate, urging the community to support the Gombe State Police Command success.
