The Nigeria Customs Service, Muritala Muhammed Airport Command said it generated N74.28bn in revenue between January and October.
Addressing journalists at the command on Wednesday, the Customs Area Controller in charge of the command, Muhammed Yusuf, said there was a 23 per cent increase in the revenue when compared to N60.1bn the commend made within the same period of 2022.
He also said that during the period under review, the command intercepted N3.1bn worth of tramadol route Nigeria from Pakistan and India.
“When compared to N60.1m collected in 2022, it shows a progressive difference of N14.23bn, representing a 23 per cent increase in revenue,” he said.
Yusuf said that with the figure, the command had so far met 76.3 per cent of its annual target.
“The was made possible as a result of the resilience of officers in ensuring that agents were made to do proper declarations and to adhere strictly to import/export guidelines in tandem with extant laws,” Yusuf stated.
The MMA Customs boss explained that the shipment of the unregistered pharmaceutical products suspected to be tramadol was intercepted on the suspicion of exceeding the approved threshold by the Federal Government.
“In the area of anti-smuggling activities, the command has intercepted unregistered pharmaceutical products suspected to be Tramadol tablets. The shipment was intercepted on the suspicion of exceeding the approved threshold by the Federal Government. The cumulative duty paid value of the items mentioned above stood at N3.1bn,” he added.
He, however, urged officers of the command to remain steadfast and focused in the discharge of their duties.
