Trinity Secondary School Alumni Association, Olodi, Apapa, Lagos, has counselled the students to be diligent and not allow challenges to hinder them from achieving greatness.
Speaking at the 40th anniversary of the school, the founder, Yomi-Sholoye Foundation, Dr Oluwaseye Yomi-Sholoye, told the students not to be deterred by their background.
She said, “My being here today is a cup of mixed feelings bringing me back to my roots because I started from here. It is an opportunity to advise the students that their backgrounds cannot stop them from getting to their destinations. We are here to give back to where we started from.”
In addition, Yomi-Sholoye in conjunction with alumni of TSS Class of ‘83 gave scholarships to some students in the junior and senior secondary schools while learning materials were given as well.
The alumni also donated a borehole to the school community.
She said, “Yomi-Sholeye Foundation, on behalf of the 1983 set, will be giving out books and some other souvenirs. This is the beginning of better things to come for the school. “About six students will get scholarships from JSS 1 to SSS 3. This is the only legacy we can leave behind. We will be remembered for the lives we have touched.”
In a related development, the old students also honoured old teachers of the school while Yomi-Sholoye, declared that her foundation would place the teachers on the foundation’s payroll for life.
Chairman, Alumni Planning Committee, Dr Cajetan Ikwuonu, said the anniversary was incomplete without giving back to the school that made them.
Principal, Trinity Secondary School, Mr Lawal Olayinka, noted that society would improve when people remember to give back.
He said, “If everyone can be giving back to the community that made them, the country will progress, government cannot do everything.”
