The hunt for the terrorists who attacked a convoy of the Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, is still ongoing, the Defence Headquarters said on Wednesday.
The PUNCH reports that the convoy was heading to Damaturu from Maiduguri on Saturday when the terrorist ambushed the vehicles in the convoy.
Although the governor was not in the convoy, top government officials like the Secretary to the Yobe State Government, Baba Wali, and the Special Adviser on Religious Affairs, among others, travelled with the convoy.
A policeman was killed, while others, including a soldier, were injured and hospitalised.
The Director, Defence Military Operation, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, in a statement on Sunday, said the policeman died at the Specialist hospital in Damaturu.
“The injured victims have also been successfully evacuated to the specialists’ hospital Damaturu where they are currently receiving treatment while the corpse of the deceased police personnel has also been deposited in the mortuary of the same hospital.
“The two vehicles affected in the incident include one MRAP and one civilian escort vehicle whose tyres were shot at during the incident but both vehicles have been safely recovered to the military camp at Benisheikh,” Buba said on Sunday.
The military vowed that it would hunt down the terrorists.
When asked by The PUNCH for an update on Wednesday, Buba said the hunt was still ongoing, saying the military was determined to flush out terrorists.
“The hunt for the terrorist who perpetrated the act is ongoing. Sooner than later, they will be flushed out,” he said.
