The visit came shortly after the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja affirmed the governor’s election and dismissed the judgment of the state election petition tribunal which earlier sacked him.
The governor was accompanied by the immediate past National Chairman of APC, Abdullahi Adamu; former Nasarawa State Governor, Tanko Almakura; former Minister of Information, Labaran Maku; former Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Mike Omeri and other party chieftains.
Although details of their closed-door meeting were not revealed, party sources said it was
to appreciate Ganduje for his support.
“It is just a ‘thank you’ visit by the governor and other Nasarawa bigwigs,” one of the sources offered an explanation.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared Sule of the APC the winner of the election, while David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party came second.
The tribunal led by Justice Ezekiel Ajayi in a split judgment held that based on evidence from the various polling units, Ombugadu had the majority of valid votes at the election
But Sule appealed the judgment and asked the appellate court to set it aside.
Delivering judgment on the matter on Thursday, the court expunged from its records the evidence and exhibits from PWs 5, 6,7,8,12,13,20, and 21 which the tribunal relied on.
Reading the lead judgment, Justice Uchechukwu Onuemenam, held that the statements of the witnesses were not front-loaded.
The court therefore ruled that the tribunal was wrong to have deducted a total of 1,868 votes from the governor based on the allegation of overvoting in four polling units.\
