Our correspondent reports that 100 widows received N5,000 in cash, while relief packages containing rice, beans, garri, onions and other staples were also handed out during the event organized by the foundation’s founder, Ifeanyi Obianinwa.
An additional 20 widows received gift bags with supplies to help them cope with current economic challenges.
Obianinwa said the initiative was inspired by the plight of widows battling hardship. He stated that the foundation plans regular charity work targeting not just widows but also orphans, the sick and less privileged.
“God opened my eyes to see the suffering of the widows especially in a hash economy, couples living together are finding it difficult to feed their homes talkless of the widows.
“So I was inspired by God to see how we can be putting smiles to the faces of the widows in whichever little way we can, through this Merciful Heartbeat of God Caring Foundation,” he said.
Widow beneficiary Rachael Obiefuna thanked the foundation profusely for the timely relief.
“In this difficult time, someone remembered us,” she noted.
Obianinwa added, “We have plans that this kind of event will be a continuous thing, it will be happening from time to time and not only for the widows.
“This foundation has plans for the orphans, the less privileged, the sick and the helpless ones in our society, as time goes on, we shall be announcing each event as it comes.”
