Aliyu made the pledge on Tuesday, at the joint swearing-in of the 2023 Batch C, Stream 1I corps members deployed to Sokoto and Zamfara states for the one-year mandatory national service, held at the permanent orientation camp, Wamakko, Sokoto.
The governor, represented by his Chief of Staff, Aminu Dikko, enjoined the newly sworn-in corps members to render quality service to the state and the nation at large as they depended on them for quality service and leadership.
Aliyu also urged the corps members to participate actively in all camp activities to boost their citizenship, and leadership skills.
He assured them that his administration would continue to support the scheme to achieve its set aims.
He also assured them that the state government would not joke with their security and welfare, stressing that a conducive environment was essential for good service.
On her part, the Chairperson, NYSC Governing Board and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youths, Sport and Social Development, Aishatu Hassan, urged the corps members to be disciplined, stressing that if they win an award it will start right from the camp.
Hassan explained that camp activities are regimental, hence a need to imbibe the spirit of discipline to cope with daily camp activities.
“The local, state and national award is given to an outstanding corps member based on his or her performance during the service period and is based on merit,” she said.
She thanked the governor for the prompt payment of state allowance to the corps members.
Earlier in his welcome address the State Coordinator of the NYSC, Usman Yaro, explained that corps members deployed to the state had been all registered and gradually adjusting to the demands of the orientation exercise.
Yaro commended the governor for his unflinching support of the scheme.
He also thanked the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Abubakar for his royal blessing.
He appreciated the Nigerian Army, Police, Civil Defense and other paramilitaries, and stakeholders for the roles they played in the camp
The highlight of the event was the administration of National and NYSC Oaths on the corps members by the State Chief Judge, Justice Muhammad Sa’idu Sifawa who was represented by Justice Fatima Ahmad Suka.
