Ahmed Aliyu, the governor of Sokoto State, has hailed the Court of Appeal’s decision to affirm his election as evidence of an impartial judiciary in Nigeria.
He made this declaration in a statement not long after the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal’s earlier ruling was affirmed by the Abuja appellate court on Monday, solidifying his victory in the 2023 election.
According to him, the court’s ruling amply proved to the international community that Nigeria’s legal system is impartial, just, and equitable.
“We see this victory as a victory from the Almighty Allah and we thank him for that. We equally commend our judiciary for standing for the truth and what is right.
“Let me use this golden opportunity to renew my call to the opposition in Sokoto State to come and join hands with us so that together we can make the state better,” Aliyu urged.
In a statement signed and made available to newsmen by his media aide, Abubakar Bawa, the governor reassured the people of the state of his administration’s unwavering determination to deliver the needed dividends of democracy.
“We will continue to provide an enabling environment that will guarantee the needed development in our dear state.
“We are determined to secure our dear state through sustained military operations until we eliminate bandits and other criminals by the special grace of God.
“We, therefore, need the unflinching support and cooperation of all and sundry in this direction,” he averred.
Aliyu also emphasized how important it is for the state’s citizens to support the current administration’s efforts to reshape the state.
He also expressed gratitude to the state’s populace for their unwavering prayers and support, both of which have been crucial to his administration’s accomplishment of the numerous achievements the state has so far been able to boast.
He asked for more intense prayers, recommendations, and helpful critiques with the goal of improving the state of Sokoto.
Recall that after losing in the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, the Peoples Democratic Party of Sokoto State and its candidate, Sai’du Umar, filed a plea with the appellate court contesting the decision that confirmed Aliyu’s victory in the previous election.
