Members of the Benue State Community Volunteer Guards have arrested three suspected armed robbers who mounted a roadblock along the Okpokwu/Ogbadibo highway.
The incident, according to sources, happened on Wednesday around 08:45 hours which left many road users to be stranded.
It was gathered that the community guards, who were on a patrol along the Odoba Hill, when informed, swung to action and gave them a hot chase leading to the arrest of three of the suspected robbers.
The source said, “On November 29, 2023 at about 08.45 hour, a team of the state Community Volunteer Guards were on patrol along the Odoba hill and got information that armed robbers were operating along the boundary between Okpokwu and Ogbadibo.
“They (the suspects) had concluded operation but the team went after them and were able to arrest three of them and handed them over to the police.
The Special Adviser to the governor on Security and Internal Affairs, Joseph Har, confirmed the arrest of the suspects.
He said, “I can confirm the good work the members of the BCVG are doing since the transfer and replacement of the former zonal commander. God will always expose them. I encourage them to keep up the momentum especially during the Yuletide”.
Efforts to get the spokesperson for the State Command, Catherine Anene, were not successful as her phone rang out.
