Akinlade’s media aide, Azeez Adelani, disclosed this in a statement late Thursday.
The state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, on Wednesday night, confirmed Oyekanmi’s killing.
Alamutu told The PUNCH that Oyekanmi was gunned down while returning from the bank where he had taken a bullion van to withdraw some funds for the state.
Akinlade urged the government to ensure that the perpetrators of the attack are brought to justice.
The statement read, “It is with deep regret and sadness that we extend our condolences to the Oyekanmi family for the needless loss of Mr. Taiwo Oyekanmi, the Director of Finance and Administration in the Governor’s Office, Ogun State. Taiwo Oyekanmi was the elder brother to Hon. Tayo Oyekanmi, a close confidant and longtime friend of Adekunle Akinlade (Triple A).
“Despite the painful extinguishing of Mr. Oyekanmi’s bright candle yesterday, we find solace in the noble life he led, representing Ipokia Local Government, Ogun West, and the state at large throughout his distinguished career as a public servant.
“Amidst our grief, we urge the government and relevant security agencies to thoroughly investigate and bring to justice those responsible for this heinous act. The fact that the attack occurred in broad daylight within the state capital raises serious concerns, emphasizing the need for swift action to prevent further attacks on citizens and businesses.
“The audacity of this assault serves as a stark reminder for the government to enhance security measures and apprehend individuals associated with cult activities in the state.
” Adekunle Akinlade, in solidarity with the Oyekanmi family, calls for justice for Mr. Taiwo Oyekanmi and advocates for a safer and more secure Ogun State.”
Meanwhile, the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has commiserated with the family late Oyekanmi, stressing that his death has left him shocked and highly devastated.
He said, “I was devastated and extremely shocked upon receiving news of the cold-blooded murder of Oyekanmi, in the hands of criminal elements and enemies of our state.
“It is indeed a colossal loss for our administration to have lost such a dedicated, truthful, and diligent official; his assailants have murdered sleep and will be flushed out immediately from wherever they might be hiding.
“I have directed all security agencies in the State to smoke the criminals out instantly and make them face the full wrath of the law. I, therefore, want to assure the entire workforce and residents in the state that never will such calamity befall our dear state again.”
