PUNCH Online learnt that Salami, while alive, was opposed to land-grabbing activities in the community.
He was, however, attacked and shot dead on April 18, while attending a function close to his residence.
A coalition of Civil Society organisations, while leading the protest alongside members of the late Salami’s family, called on the police to investigate the circumstances that led to his death.
The protesters who besieged the State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja around 11am also accused officers attached to a police division in the community of unwillingness to investigate the incident and arrest the perpetrators.
The Acting Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, who later attended to them, received their petition and promised to investigate the matter.
Ayilara also urged those wishing to provide information regarding the incident to visit the headquarters.
