A singer, blogger and social media influencer, Tunde Adekunle, popularly known as Tunde Ednut, is one name that is not far from the mouths of several people, especially entertainers such as social media comedians and other influencers.
This is because he is believed to have the influence and clout to make an unknown person popular by featuring them on his well-followed Instagram page. It is for this reason that is widely referred to as ‘the kingmaker’.
On several occasions, Ednut has served as a bridge between a person (especially social media celebs) and fame.
In August, he had shared the video of a lady, Okoli Classic, who made a post detailing what she wanted to eat and how she prepared it. Her hilarious commentary for the video amused many, including a popular singer, David Adeleke, aka Davido, who then gave her a cash gift of N2m. According to the singer, Okoli had made him laugh.
Since that life-changing incident, Okoli has been getting more visibility as a social media influencer.
Another instance that demonstrates Ednut’s influence was when he connected a singer, Spyro, with top female singer, Tiwa Savage, to record a remix of the former’s hit song, Who’s your Guy.
Other social media personalities whose careers and visibility have grown due to Ednut’s influence include Very Dark Black Boy, Motell, Egungun of Lagos, Ola of Lagos, Kiriku, Expatriate comedian, Raebel, Sydney Talker, and Mr Macaroni.
Ednut has also carried out several philanthropic acts by coming to the aid of some of his social media followers who needed money.
As it has been happening for some years now, Ednut’s birthday on January 20, 2023, was the talk of town. His big day was celebrated in about 15 different locations, including in Nigeria— Lagos, Abuja, Benin, Port Harcourt, Anambra, Owerri, Delta, Ogun, Kogi, Calabar— and India, South Africa, London, Belgium, Atlanta, Russia, Ghana, and Sierra Leone. This was accompanied by a deluge of gifts to the birthday boy.
However, on the flip side, some people have accused him of only posting about a certain group of people.
In a recent video on social media, a rapper, Oladipupo Oladimeji, aka Oladips, criticised Ednut for not making posts to promote his latest album, despite him showing a willingness to pay for the post.
He added that, on the other hand, the social media personality wasted no time in posting about his death, and his claim that he ‘returned to life’ after being unconscious for three days.
Though many believe that the death hoax was a publicity stunt to promote Oladips’ album, the rapper claimed that rituals had to be performed before he could ‘return to life’ after three days.
