Ahead of the bye-election that will take place at the Akoko North-East/North-West Federal Constituency of Ondo State, the youths of Akoko North-West Local Government Area of Ondo State have called on political parties to pick credible candidates from their local government.
The seat of the federal constituency became vacant following the resignation of the former lawmaker, Mr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo who was appointed the Minister for Interior by President Bola Tinubu.
Though the Independent National Electoral Commission has yet to announce the date for the bye-election, the youths are agitating that the candidate must be from the Akoko North-West.
The youths, in their hundreds, who held a solidarity rally in some communities in Akoko North-West LGA, said the federal constituency comprised two local governments – Akoko North-West and Akoko North-East, explaining that the former lawmaker that resigned was from the local government.
They expressed the need for the local government to produce the candidate that would complete the ongoing four-year term in the House of Representatives.
Speaking with our correspondent about the rally, on Friday, the leader of the youths, Mr Abiola Mayowa, said there should be no argument on the matter, explaining that since the current senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District was from Akoko North-East, the House of Representatives seat should be conceded to the Akoko North-West to allow them complete their four-year term.
