the Lagos State Government, on Wednesday, expressed its readiness to collaborate with willing foreign investors to boost the economy of the state.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, stated this during a business meeting with officials of the Lekki Free Zone at Alausa.
A statement on Wednesday quoted the commissioner as saying that the present administration is committed to increasing business opportunities in every part of the state, adding that “the government has invested massively in the Lekki Free Zone corridor with the full awareness that the part of the state is the future of Nigeria.”
He added that Lagos State was the only state in Nigeria with a clear-cut climate change policy, saying this was partly traceable to its being a coastal city affected by the rising sea level.
He stated that the state recently launched Phase II of the Lagos Climate Resilience and Adaptation Policy, which demonstrated its readiness to combat climate change issues.
Wahab further noted that the state was open to partnership and investment in solid and liquid waste management.
In his response, the Managing Director, Lekki Free Zone Development Company, Mr Zhang Bin, said his organisation and his country, China, were ready to support Lagos in developing climate change initiatives in the Lekki Free Zone area.
