The Ondo State House of Assembly, on Wednesday, confirmed the receipt of a letter from Governor Rotimi Akeredolu transmitting power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as he (Akeredolu), returns to Germany for further medical attention.
Aiyedatiwa, who returned to the state on Wednesday, was received at the Akure airport by his jubilant supporters and associates, led by a former Secretary to the State Government, Mr Sunday Abegunde.
The ailing Governor Akeredolu had, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Richard Olatunde, on Tuesday, disclosed his intention to return to Germany on Wednesday, to follow up his treatment. This development came barely four months after he returned from the European country, where spent three months receiving medical treatment.
On Wednesday, the Speaker of the Assembly, Mr Olamide Oladiji, confirmed the receipt of the governor’s letter in a statement, signed by him.
The Speaker said, “Following the doctor’s advice on the need for medical follow-up after recuperating, Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, has forwarded the letter on medical leave to the state House of Assembly.
“Receiving the letter on behalf of other lawmakers, the Speaker, Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon.Olamide Oladiji, said the governor’s action was in line with Section 190 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
“According to the letter, his deputy, Hon.Lucky Aiyedatiwa, will now assume the responsibilities of the governor in an acting capacity until there is a written declaration to the contrary.
“The leave is expected to commence on Wednesday,13th December 2023.”
Oladiji expressed optimism that Akeredolu would fully recover and return to his duty post.
