A former Students Union Government President of the University of Benin, Michael Oshiobugie, has declared his interest to contest the 2024 Edo State governorship election on the platform of the Labour Party.
The engineer-turned-politician, who was at the secretariat of the party in Benin on Wednesday to formally make his interest known, said if given the opportunity to govern the state he would ensure no one was oppressed.
Oshiobugie, who led the UNIBEN SUG in 1996, said he had the required capacity to bring about prosperity to Edo.
He said, “I have rich technical and engineering experience which I believe is required at this difficult time in our history. The state needs someone who can turn around the economy and I am the man to do that.
“As an engineer and governor of this state, it behooves me to use the skills I have acquired to ensure that we make gas available as much as possible because Edo has rich gas deposits. Therefore, the technology to transform this gas, I have it, while other resources that can make the state strong will also be tapped into.”
Responding, the state chairman of the Labour Party, Kelly Ogbaloi, said just like every other aspirant, the leadership of the party accepted Oshiobugie, particularly going by his resume, just as he wished him well.
