An annual golf event tagged ‘For The Love Of Golf Initiative’, aimed at supporting paediatric cancer patients has donated electrocardiogram machines and cardiac monitors to the management of the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo State, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The institution was the beneficiary of the equipment procured for this year’s edition of the event.
According to Johns Hopkins, an ECG machine records impulses to show how fast the heart is beating, the rhythm of the heart beats (steady or irregular), and the strength and timing of the electrical impulses as they move through the different parts of the heart.
The coordinator of the event Ejiro Ogomigo stated that the proceeds made from golfers who registered to play at the tournament and funds raised from corporate sponsors were used to procure cancer equipment for three selected hospitals – University Teaching Hospital, the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital and the UCH Ibadan.
Ogomigo added that the ‘For The Love Of Golf Initiative’ will assist indigent paediatric cancer patients directly.
“Before now, we donated equipment to teaching hospitals and when people demanded for assessment of our impact, it becomes impossible to quantify,” he said.
“But with direct assistance, we can beat our chest and say that we have saved lives.
“So, what it means is that we will start the direct assistance of indigent paediatric cancer patients and follow through until they are declared cancer-free.”
The founder of ‘For The Love Of Golf’ tournament, Adesola Falaiye, expressed delight at the successful completion of Season Four of the charity event.
“I appreciate the individuals and corporate bodies that supported us to make this dream a reality,” Falaiye said.
“On behalf of the steering committee, I promise all our sponsors that we won’t betray their trust. We will account for every penny that they have put into this project.
“This is just the beginning, I look forward to us celebrating 50 years of this initiative.”
